How to choose a bank account

Updated this week

To receive reimbursement payments via direct deposit, you'll need to validate your bank account with Benepass. There are two ways to complete this process: through Plaid's secure login system or by providing your account and routing numbers and verifying a microdeposit.

Before you begin

  • You must be based in the US to receive direct deposit reimbursements

  • Have your bank account and routing numbers handy if using the manual validation method

If you are located outside the US, you will receive reimbursements via payroll. Please contact your employer's HR or Payroll team for additional details.

Steps

Validate using banking credentials

This option will ask you to provide your banking login credentials for instant verification. Benepass will not receive any information about your credentials, login details, account balances, or other. Plaid only provides Benepass with the account details necessary to validate your bank account, such as your account and routing numbers, without confirming a microdeposit.

  1. Navigate to the Settings page

  2. Click into the "Bank account" tab

  3. Click "Connect account"

  4. Select your bank from the list or search for it by name

  5. Follow the prompts to log in through your bank's secure system

  6. Refresh the page - you should see a green "Verified" status

If you prefer not to validate your bank account using your banking credentials, please use the account and routing numbers method below.

Validate using account and routing numbers

This option will ask you to provide your bank account's account and routing numbers. A microdeposit will be sent to this account in 12-24 hours, and you'll need to verify it to validate your bank account.

  1. Navigate to the Settings page

  2. Click into the "Bank account" tab

  3. Click "Connect account"

  4. Scroll to bottom of bank list and click "Link with account numbers"

  5. Enter your associated routing number

  6. On the next page, select "Enter account number instead"

  7. Enter account number

  8. Enter your full name exactly as it appears on the account being verified

  9. Choose the account type

  10. Select Authorize

    1. Depending on your banking institution, the verification code may arrive within a few minutes. In some cases, it can take up to 12–24 hours for a $0.01 micro-deposit containing a 3-letter code to appear. Once sent, this code will look like:

  11. Return to Settings and click "Verify account"

  12. Enter the 3-letter code from the micro-deposit

  13. Look for the green "Verified" status

What to expect

Once your account is verified, you'll be able to receive reimbursement payments via direct deposit. Payments typically arrive 3-5 business days after an expense is approved, depending on your bank's processing times.

Troubleshooting

My bank isn't listed

Try the account/routing number method instead, which works for nearly all US banks.

I haven't received the microdeposit

  • Double-check you entered the correct account information

  • Allow up to 24 hours for the deposit to appear

  • Look for a $0.01 deposit with a 3-letter code in the memo line

  • Make sure you're checking the correct account

  • Contact Benepass Support if you still don't see it after 24 hours

I have a US bank account, but I am located outside the US

Due to banking regulations and system configurations, Benepass is only able to send direct reimbursement payments to users who are located in the United States with US banking institutions. You will receive all reimbursement payments via your employer's payroll, usually the month following expense approval.
