Commuter Benefits (Transit/Parking)

What is a Commuter Transit/Parking pre-tax benefit?

Commuter benefits are pre-tax benefits* that will aid your daily commutes. There are 2 types of Commuter benefits: Transit and Parking.

  • A Commuter Transit pre-tax benefit allows employees to contribute pre-tax dollars to use toward their commute to/from work (includes subway, bus, train, ferry, car, and vanpool expenses).
  • A Commuter Parking pre-tax benefit allows employees to contribute pre-tax dollars to use toward parking as part of their daily commute to work. This includes parking at or near your place of work or at a location near where you take public transportation to get to work.

*Generally speaking, a "pre-tax" benefit means that the cost of the benefit is deducted from an employee's paycheck before income and employment taxes are applied. This also lowers the total income amount that is taxed, which reduces the income taxes the employee is responsible for paying.
