Fraud

How to report a fraudulent charge

Fraud is an unauthorized transaction or purchase not initiated by you or another authorized user of your card, usually at a merchant you do not recognize.

I noticed a purchase I did not authorize on my account

If you notice a transaction on your Benepass card that you did not initiate and you believe it to be fraudulent, the first step will be to report it.

Navigate to the specific transaction from the app or website and scroll down to "Report fraud." This will take you directly to a contact form with our Support team for further assistance.

Include as much information about the transaction as possible, such as the date, merchant name, and transaction amount. If you have previously contacted the merchant to resolve the issue without success, please include any steps you may have already taken to remediate the issue directly with the vendor.

Once received, our team will reach back out to you as quickly as possible with next steps.

In the meantime, you can also take steps to cancel your card(s) directly from the app. Once you confirm the card details that were used to make the fraudulent purchase, you can navigate to the card from the Cards page and scroll down to "Report lost or stolen." This will immediately cancel your card, at which point you'll be able to automatically reissue yourself a new card from the main Cards page by clicking "Create card" for virtual cards or "Order card" for physical cards.

A merchant charged me incorrectly

Duplicate, incorrect, or otherwise disputed transactions with merchants where you have made a purchase are not the same as fraud. In these cases, you'll need to contact the merchant directly in order to resolve the issue and have any charges refunded or reversed.

I'm not sure if the purchase was fraud

Seeing a transaction you're not sure if you recognize? Here are some tips to track down the source of your purchase.

  1. Authorized users: Does your spouse or dependents have access to your card to use for eligible purchases? If so, check with them to see if they may have initiated a purchase.
  2. Card on file with merchant: Was the purchase with a merchant you shop with often? If your card details are on file with a merchant you often purchase from, check with the merchant to see if they may have charged the wrong card accidentally.
  3. Purchase split into multiple charges: Do you recognize the merchant but not the purchase amount? Some merchants split charges into multiple transactions, especially if they shipped your order in multiple shipments. We see this most commonly with Amazon and similar vendors. Contact the merchant directly, or review your order history to confirm invoice details, such as multiple charges.
