If you do not provide a required receipt within 90 days of making a pre-tax purchase, card spending for that benefit will be disabled until a receipt showing eligible spend is provided.
Why?
IRS regulated pre-tax benefits, such as Health FSAs, require proof that a purchase was eligible. If this proof cannot be auto-generated based on information provided by the merchant at time of sale, you will be required to provide it in the form of a receipt.
What to know
To avoid card spending being disabled, make sure to add receipts to all transactions that require them. Transactions missing receipts will show "Needs information" in your account, and you'll receive regular reminders via email.
Which benefits does this apply to?
This applies to most IRS-set pre-tax benefits:
- Health Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)
- Limited Purpose Flexible Spending Accounts (LPFSAs)
- Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (DCFSAs)
- Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs)
- Commuter Transit Accounts
- Commuter Parking Accounts
How do I re-enable card spending?
Attach the required receipt information to the affected transaction(s) to re-enable card spending for the affected benefit.
To find the relevant transaction(s) you can either:
- Follow the link in the email you receive
- Follow the prompt shown in the "Updates" section of the Home page
- Click on the error message displayed at the bottom of the Benefit's overview page, or
- Navigate to the transaction list for the benefit and filter for the "Needs information" status
Once substantiation is provided and verified, card spending will be re-enabled.
Alternative options
Even with card spending disabled, you can still:
- Submit expenses for reimbursement under the affected benefit
- Continue using your card for any other unaffected benefits
However, the fastest way to ensure seamless spending across all benefits is to provide the missing receipt or proof of eligible spend as soon as possible.
