My card declined at a merchant from the Explore Page

The Explore page is meant to inspire your Benepass spending. Merchants have been curated according to your specific benefits policy, and represent some spending suggestions within the allowed parameters. 

If your purchase declines with a merchant you see on the Explore page, and the decline reason is that the merchant is disallowed, most likely the merchant's information from the Visa network came in using a code that may not fully represent their business.

For example, Walmart bills as a grocery store or a discount store depending on the location. If groceries are allowed under your benefit, but your preferred Walmart billed as a discount store, the card will decline. 

While we can't change how the merchant bills, we can make tweaks to how we read the merchant's data. 

If you've experienced a decline like this, please contact our Support Team by submitting the following information in a ticket:

  • Date of the decline
  • Merchant
  • Amount
