What purchases are eligible with a Commuter benefit?

Pre-tax Commuter Transit and Parking benefits can be used for specific work-related transportation expenses, as defined by the IRS.

Eligible Transit expenses include:

  • Bus, train, or subway tickets and passes

  • Ferry tickets or passes

Eligible Parking expenses include:

  • Parking lots and garages at or near your place or work

  • Parking lots and garages at or near a transit station for your daily commute

Parking and transportation costs unrelated to work are not eligible for reimbursement. The following are also not eligible:

  • Tolls

  • Gasoline or fuel

  • Bike-related expenses, including bike shares

  • Car maintenance

  • Flights

  • Travel to/from business meetings

  • Transportation for spouses/dependents

  • Ride share services
